Green Butterfly Box

I started out by painting the box, inside and out, with a thinned down, metalic green acrylic paint. I wanted a thin , transparent layer of colour which acted more like a stain so that the grain pattern of the wood remained visible. The inside of the lid was lined with pastel green felt to cover the plastic film that makes the window as it didn't look very neat. I took an IndigoBlu stamp and printed the wildflower design around the base of the box, varying the position and which part of the stamp I used. I had some plastic butterfly embelishments that I had been given and added the butterflies around the box and on the lid before adding smaller, stamped butterflies to complete the design. I took a coppery gold permanent marker to fill in the smaller butterflies  and coordinate them with the rest of the box. Finally I went over the stamping with a fineliner to sharpen it up and help define the grasses and flowers more clearly.
